Local triathlete Alexandra Keith has been crowned world champion in her 35-39 age group in the Cross Triathlon at the Multiport World Championships held in Townsville last week.

Keith was also the fastest aged female across the line, leading 79 other females across the line in a time of one hour 49 minutes and 25 seconds.

The event saw the competitors begin with a one-kilometre swim before transitioning to a 20.5-kilometre bike ride, before finishing with a six-kilometre run.

Keith found the front in the swim and was never headed from then on, finishing almost three minutes ahead of her nearest opposition in her age bracket.

Three other Riviera Triathlon Club members competed in the cross triathlon including Toby Smith who came fourth in his age group (45-49) with a time one hour, 49 minutes and 30 seconds.

Andrew Martin crossed the line in 11th in his category (55-59) with a time two hours four minutes and four seconds.

The evergreen Frank McShane finished eighth in his age class (65-69) with a time of two minutes, 15 minutes and 10 seconds.

The event attracted high class fields in most events.

Riviera Triathlon Club members Alexandra Keith, Andrew Martin, Frank McShane and Toby Smith were all smiles after some sensational efforts last week in Townsville at the world championships. (PS)
