The annual sail past at the Metung Yacht Club on New Year’s Day was very popular with yachts and cruisers this year, with some people making a considerable effort to dress themselves and their boats.

The event is held each year on Bancroft Bay and is attended by members of Metung Yacht Club, and the wider community, who sail or motor their boats past East Wind, on which the yacht club’s commodore, Jeff Rose, stands.

This year was the 60th year that East Wind, owned by the Russell family, was donated for the commodore’s accommodation for the sail past.

Part of the fun of the sail past is the judging of the entrants in the various classes and competitions, with the judges reporting it was a very tight field of contestants.

The best decorated boat was by Juno, while the judges couldn’t separate the best dressed crews, the honours going to the Village People on Una Mas and Pirates of the Caribbean on board Rob N Hood.

The best wooden boat was awarded to Nancy, while the best boat with a dog was awarded to Dolphin.

The best boat with a young crew was awarded to Shaving Point, with honourable mentions, to Boogie, Apres La Mer, Moontide, La Mouette and Blonde Bay.

The crew about Rob N Hood were joint winners of the best dressed crew award, channeling Pirates of the Caribbean. (PS)
