The Bairnsdale Speedway Association Saturday night meet culminated early after rain caused havoc to the clay racing surface.
The club tried in vain to get the whole race meeting completed but with the rain persistent, the last dash of rain just after 9pm was enough for the team to make the hard call to end the night.
However with the qualifying races already run and done, winners for classes could be determined based on points.
Junior standard saloons competed in the latest round of the Bairnsdale Next Generation track series with visiting drivers getting some laps in before the state title for the class is held soon at Bairnsdale.
The competition was fierce with River Paterson finishing on top of the points.
He was able to claim the night’s win over Tom Braz, Dylan Sweet, Kaine Smith and Noah Collette.
In the ladies’ standard saloon competition, Bree Walker locked in another victory in the class at Bairnsdale, her third for the season.
On the way she won two of the three heat races with Sarsfield’s Simone Taylor the other. Walker was successful on points from Michelle George from Leongatha, Taylor, Kate Stuchbery and Joanne Richardson, all local club members.
Division two hot rod racers had another steer around the track as they readied themselves for their upcoming state title.
Jordan Haley won two of the three heat races with
Fraser Crittenden from Lakes Entrance victorious in the other.
Victorian champion Haley came out on top in his first sight of the Granite Rock circuit this season, comfortably finishing ahead of Fraser Crittenden, Troy Wilson, Ben Crittenden and Robert Tatterson.
Mitch Foster from Morwell claimed the points victory in standard saloons action
with Jack Braz finishing second ahead of Josh Thomas, Gus Argoon and Beau Stuchbery.
Braz and Stuchbery continue to impress in their rookie senior season.
Six heat races made up the qualifying with Foster and Jack Braz successful twice, with Jamie Curtis and Thomas getting a victory each.
Rounding out all the action, Darren Adams won the limited sportsman, finishing in front in of Matthew Hurley, Mark Both and Chris Woeltjes.
Competitors will be back in action on January 27 with the Victorian Speedway Council junior standard saloon title to be held as the main event.
