Community transmission of COVID-19 is increasing across Victoria with a surge in hospitalisation of COVID-19 cases.
This increase in community transmission is linked to a new variant, JN.1, causing similar impacts internationally.
Gippsland Lakes Complete Health’s chief executive officer, Anne-Maree Kaser, understands the angst and frustration that comes with the latest COVID spike but says it’s essential that we look out for each other, particularly people with underlying health conditions.
“There are people in our community – loved ones and friends – who are at greater risk of becoming seriously ill from COVID-19 and need to be protected,” Ms Kaser said.
There are some simple things you can do to protect yourself and at-risk community members, including:
– Wearing a face mask if you have symptoms or in high-risk settings
– Taking a test if you have symptoms
– Staying at home if sick
– Meeting outdoors or letting fresh air in when indoors
– Staying up to date with your COVID-19 vaccination
– Talking to your GP about COVID-19 medicines, especially if you are at risk.
In response to this latest surge, GLCH is encouraging visitors to wear a mask when accessing their health services to protect people who may have underlying health conditions.
