Given the lead actor, I wasn’t expecting much, especially after having to endure The Meg 2.
With lowest expectations surprises came. The film both entertained and was enjoyable.
Adam Clay (Jason Statham) is a former member of a sacred classified program within the CIA; he’s an operative known as a beekeeper.
Away from program he really does keep bees.
A nest of wasps can conceivably kill the honeybees.
Clay calmly takes charge, disposes of the entire nest, and it’s a harbinger of actions to come.
Honeybees are essential for humankind.
No bees? No agriculture. No civilisation.
Should the beehive be compromised, the entire hive collapses. The hive must be kept safe. Beekeepers do not stand down.
They keep working until they die.
Eloise Parker (Phylicia Rashad) is an elderly woman and a chairman of charities.
Legitimately, she has a massive amount of money in several accounts.
An announcement covers her computer screen. “Warning! Your hard drive is infected. Call, etc.” She calls.
A gentleman assures her all will be right.
Scammer! An office full of scam artists! Her accounts are wiped and the scammers whoop.
Daughter of Mrs. Parker is FBI agent Verona Parker (Emmy Raver-Lampman).
How she and Adam Clay come together is to avoid a spoiler, but for a time they are opposing forces of the law and/or justice.
The beekeeper protects the hive and admits it’s personal. “Taking from an elderly person is as bad a stealing from a child… no one cares.”
Fire – that wrath of hell – punishes and consumes all evil. Buildings and offices of scammers. Petrol station. The mansion of the Danforths!
Derek Danforth (Josh Hutcherson) is one corrupt dude.
Fans of the former child star may be disappointed in, maybe shocked at his latest incarnation as head of several scamming organisations preying on the vulnerable.
Protecting him, preventing drug use, keeping him on the path of honesty, and protecting the Danforth family name is Wallace Westwyld (Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons).
Westwyld works for President of the U.S.A Danforth (Jemma Redgrave), hired especially to protect the family name.
She’s the Queen of the hive, in office because her son Derek used scammed money to buy votes. The Danforths are billionaires… and fraudsters. They cheat for personal power. How could this possibly be relevant today?
“The last pair of eyes you will see on Earth will be the Vigilante.”
The Beekeeper is both a bee movie and a B movie.
There are instants of greatness, but for an action picture, it’s simply serviceable schlock… but highly entertaining.
