Sale’s Simon Whitford conquered the Mitchell River first on Saturday morning in the long awaited return of the Bridge to Bridge swim classic.
Simon Whitford defeated 19 other competitors, completing the course ahead of Aki Vardy and the first female to finish, Alexandra Keith.
Whitford’s winning time was a slick 30 minutes and 39 seconds, finishing more than two minutes ahead of Aki Vardy.
Run by the Riviera Triathlon Club, the event is 2.5 kilometres open water swim from Lind Bridge to the Howitt Park Rail Bridge.
In the team event youngsters Harry Whitford and Obi Vardy completed the course first in 31 minutes and 47 minutes, finishing almost 13 minutes ahead of John Nuttal and John Goode.
It was the first edition of the Bridge to Bridge since 2020, with a supportive crowd on hand to encourage the swimmers as they made their way through the murky waters.
