The 2024 volleyball season will begin soon, but the Bairnsdale Volleyball Association (BVA) will firstly run its annual Community Challenge Cup over the next few weeks.
This mini season, designed so all games are participated in a fun and friendly manner, gives local Bairnsdale and surrounding businesses/services an opportunity to play against each other for bragging rights within the community.
This long-running tournament began back in the late 1990s in which inaugural winners, Goodmans Seed Farm and Garden Centre, held onto the champions trophy for a number of years.
It is based around the idea of allowing individual players and teams to come along and try the game for several weeks and determine how seriously they may want to play in the new autumn season which is due to start in early March.
Last year 12 teams entered the friendly competitive season that saw the eventual winners, Lakes Entrance Glass and Glazing, defeat newly-formed team of The Island Crew.
Games are the best of three sets (first to 15) with a 20-minute time limit on all games.
Matches will be played at the Bairnsdale Recreation and Aquatic Centre on Thursday night in February from 6.30pm.
The regular BVA Autumn season begins on the February 29, with team or individual players entries now open.
