Bairnsdale Classic Car Club got together at Howitt Park in their classic cars recently.
Member Max Curtis took the group on a tour of the new estate out at Clifton Creek Road, Wy Yung. That was amazing in itself as the houses that have been built out there are extraordinary.
Members then traveled out to Clifton Creek to Ray and Jan Whelan’s property where Ray showed off his collection of bikes and cars. He has BSA, Triumphs, Suzuki, AJs to mention a few, many which he has restored.
The members went inside to be treated to a high tea by Jan. Everyone sat at a table and were catered for with an array of food and sweets.
The birthday cake was brought out for Dave Ticknell to celebrate his milestone.
Ray then took the group out on the verandah and explained how the bushfires came so close and he and Jan saved the house – an amazing story of bravery and courage to stay and fight for their house which would certainly be destroyed if they left.
The members had a wonderful meal and caught up with great friends. Some members got into the swing of it and dressed up for the high tea.
