Local organisations have come to the fore, making generous donations to provide Sarsfield Volunteer Fire Brigade with an automated external defibrillator (AED) to be mounted to the outside of the station at 360 Great Alpine Road.
Members of Bairnsdale Speedway, Bairnsdale Bowls and Bairnsdale Croquet Club were on hand to hand over the new device to brigade captain Darren Webster who thanked the clubs for their donations, saying “We could not have done this without their public-spirited support”.
These clubs have been on the front foot with installation of AEDs in their own premises and were pleased to be able to assist the brigade to similarly equip their station.
While fire brigade vehicles are provided with AED devices for use while attending emergencies, externally mounted devices in prominent places throughout the community can be accessed by anyone 24/7 at need.
AEDs are simple to use with minimal training, with each unit giving clear visual instructions. This AED is registered on the GoodSam network and will be readily available to the public in a cardiac emergency, providing what could be a lifesaving service to both locals and travellers.
