Bairnsdale police are appealing for public assistance after an elderly man was assaulted in Bairnsdale on February 19.
It is believed that four offenders attempted to steal a car before being interrupted by the owner, at a property on Moroney Street, about 2.30am.
The offenders assaulted the man and fled the address on foot. An 83-year-old Bairnsdale man was taken to hospital with injuries and was released the following day. No arrests have been made and the investigations remain ongoing.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a man in Bairnsdale on February 29. The deceased was located on McKean Street just before 7am.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
