View Street residents at Paynesville are making noise on television news, radio and in print in their ongoing quest to have the mowing of the land opposite their homes between Lake King and View Street restarted.
Unfortunately, according to View Street resident Lyle Elliott, all the residents want is to have the area as it used to be – neat and tidy with cut grass and not a haven for snakes that often roll across and take up a residence on the properties on View Street.
Mr Elliott said when the area was not the wilderness it now is, people walked the area and hit the odd golf ball about.
“We really enjoyed our quiet space. Now it’s a fire hazard and a no-go zone for locals,” he said.
“The area was used at one stage as dumping ground for fill from the the spectacular canal development, prior to that it was the Paynesville airstrip and now one government department has found native grasses abundant on the landfill areas putting again a stop to any activity to clean it up.”
Mr Elliott said the View Street residents were fed up with government officials who displayed no empathy with them, but “would rather turn away from any discussion to fix the local problem”.
Mr Elliott said council and State Government department representatives do not understand they are employees of the taxpayer and should be responsible and responsive for delivering reasonable service to the communities they serve.
“The lack of communication and action by government agencies just drives you bonkers,” he said.
