Bairnsdale Tennis Club is gearing up to host its first major event of 2024, the annual Labour Day tennis tournament this weekend.
The three-day event brings in players from interstate, Melbourne and regional Victoria with generations of families returning once again to play.
The tournament features events for all levels including family doubles, over 60 veterans doubles as well as singles, doubles, and mixed in all other grades.
The open event will once again feature top level tennis with last year’s men’s winner in local Daniel Stormon and ladies’ champion, ex-local Sophie Vickers, of Royal South Yarra Tennis Club, aiming to repeat their success of last year.
With entries rolling in, tournament director Brian McKail is confident numbers will exceed last year’s total of 170 competitors. Entries can be completed online at the Bairnsdale Tennis Clubs website as well as being available at the club.
The club will also be showcasing upgrades to the clubrooms that members, volunteers and generous local trades people have been working hard to achieve as well as hosting its annual spit roast dinner on the Saturday night as well as a hamburger night on the Sunday night.
The annual tournament, which is in its 76th year, provides an opportunity for tennis enthusiasts to enjoy Bairnsdale and surrounds and is a bonus for local accommodation, hospitality and retail businesses.
