The Bairnsdale Bullets under 10 boys side has won the annual Traralgon Basketball Association Labour Day weekend tournament.
The Bullets were represented by all 13 squad teams at the Traralgon Basketball extravaganza, but it was it was the under 10 boys side that shone brightest.
Winning three of their four qualifying games, ending up in third place on the ladder, the under 10 boys knocked off Morwell in the semi finals before proving too good for Traralgon in the grand final, winning 21-12.
Darby Robinson and Jai Kelly led the scorers in the finale for the Bullets, both shooting six points.
U10 girls: Had a great tournament to finish the under 10 squad season. The girls progressed from “B” grade at the beginning of the season to being competitive in “A” grade and making the semi finals.
U12 girls: The girls put up an amazing fight all weekend, winning three of their four games. This put them into the semi finals where they fought hard but lost to Traralgon 16-19, in a match that could have gone either way.
U12.1 boys: Another competitive tournament for the boys, with three strong wins and a draw in the pool games, unfortunately going down to their arch nemesis Traralgon in the finals. They will take plenty of positives away from the weekend in preparation for County Championships.
U12.2 boys: The boys had a fantastic tournament with some tough competitors in Traralgon and strong Melbourne teams, resulting in two wins and two losses. The boys were competitive in all games and their determination and passion shone through, as they never gave up.
U14 girls: The girls had a great weekend showcasing all the skills they’ve learnt over the past 10 months.
They played well as a team, fought hard and went down in a couple of close games and came away with a good win against a quality Traralgon outfit.
U14.1 boys: The boys put in a monster effort winning three of their four games against Sale, Traralgon and Moe, just missing out on the semi finals by percentage.
U14.2 boys: Another great effort to win three out of four games, including a win against Sale, who they lost to in the grand final last tournament. They placed second on the ladder getting them through to semi finals. Up against Collingwood in the semis, they unfortunately lost by 18 points. The boys have had a great season and grown together as a team as well as individually.
U14.3 boys: Continue to put up competitive showings, playing with great resilience, and have improved immensely. A very close game was played with the winner of the competition, validating that the lads as worthy contenders.
U16 girls: The girls pushed and gave it their all during all four games against some tough teams. The scoreboard didn’t reflect their effort and determination in the end losing to Eltham, Sale and Warragul. From where they started at the girls first tournament to where they are now is amazing and they should be proud of their efforts on and off the court.
U16 boys: The boys had a hard weekend against some top teams – winning two and losing two. The boys are headed to Bendigo this coming weekend for Country Championships.
U18.1 boys: Some great basketball played with a seven-point loss to a talented group of under 19s players, followed by an agonising one-point loss to Eltham and a well-earned one-point victory over Morwell.
The boys pulled it together for a 26-point win over Foster including plenty of dunks and an amazing team effort to make finals. Unfortunately Traralgon took the home court advantage to finish the Bullets campaign.
U18.2 boys: The boys scored a rough draw which saw the development team face three teams which ultimately played off in finals. That being said, the boys didn’t make it easy and in most games outscored the opposition in the second half to show them what’s in store for next year.
