Following the parish Eucharist on February 4, The people of St Peter’s By The Lake gathered for the turning of the first sod in their long awaited building program.
Ceremonially undertaken by the Reverend Heather Toms, locum priest at St Peter’s, this is the first step in realising a dream begun under the parish tenure of Bishop Jeffrey Driver two years earlier.
The building update to the road frontage will allow for disability compliant toilet and bathroom facilities, a new robing area and expanded kitchen and fellowship area.
Parishioners have fund-raised with pop up bric-a-brac sales, personal sacrificial donations and a myriad of other measures, including donations from other community religious and non-religious groups.
There is great excitement among the people of St Peter’s as they watch Gippsland builder, Legend Homes, erect scaffolding and get to work preparing the site.
