Bairnsdale Football Netball Club launched its season on Saturday night at the Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre.
The Redlegs have made real inroads at Gippsland League level in recent seasons and have impressed other clubs and league officials with their commitment, innovation and development as a club on and off the field.
The night commenced with a promotional video created by Jeff McKeon, which certainly got everyone’s attention and set the scene for the remainder of the evening.
Speakers included club president, Michael Mann, TAFE Gippsland representative Rhonda Noble, social club representative, Vicky Waddell, under 15 and 17 netball coach, Michaela Ward, “A” grade netball coach, Alyshia Kennedy, and football coaches Adam Rees (fourths), Paul Anderson (thirds) and Logan Austin (seniors).
Training numbers for both netball and football have been excellent this season, with the club having full netball sides in 2024.
“It’s great to have Alyshia Kennedy onboard and Michaela Ward return, our netball program is looking in great shape,” Mann said.
The club will welcome three new recruits from Melbourne for the season, Tom Blenheim, Cooper Harvey and Hugh Longbottom who all have plenty of talent on and off the field for the Redlegs.
“It’s great to bring in some more quality people with obvious ability to assist us to continue to develop the elite local talent,” Mann said.
The Redlegs recently held a training camp at Coonawarra, which was helpful for fitness and team bonding.
The club recently announced a number of marquee matches that they hope will capture the attention and imagination of the local football public.
They include this week’s Easter Saturday opener against Traralgon and the highly successful MND Day, which this year will be on June 8 against traditional rival, Sale.
There’s a real buzz around the Bairnsdale Football Netball Club at the club at the moment, with Peppermint Park almost complete, which will offer another training option. The club is also well represented at the Gippsland Stars and Power (male and female level).
The Redlegs have been working feverishly on and off the field in the recent years, one senses if something big is going to happen, the time is near.
