The much talked about Gippsland League light heavyweight title fight was won by Sale Football Netball Club coach, Jack Johnstone.
Johnstone took to the ring against mate and Maffra Football Netball Club star, Daniel Bedggood, for a three-round bout, with the winner pocketing $5000 for their respective football club.
After a close opening minute, Johnstone took took control late in the first round, landing some big right hands, the bell saving Bedggood who looked to be in trouble.
Johnstone came out keen to get the job done early in round two, throwing some impressive combinations, which had Bedggood swaying at the knees.
The fight ended 52 seconds into the second round, when the Eagles forward’s corner threw the towel in, as Johnstone circled for a knockout.
Both fighters were humble post fight, giving an insight into how tough boxing is and the challenges they had faced.
“It was great fun, but the real boxers are about to get in the ring, they work hard and it’s a tough gig, we’ve been getting all the attention, but they deserve it,” Johnstone said.
Mates outside the ring, Bedggood and Johnstone were keen to catch up for a refreshing ale afterwards, with the bragging rights firmly in the corner of the Sale coach.
