An enthusiastic bunch of local young football umpires got to umpire on the big stage last Monday.
The East Gippsland Umpires Association (EGUA) provided eight young field umpires to officiate in the Auskick games at the annual Geelong versus Hawthorn Easter Monday blockbuster.
Harry Gault, Beau Cottrell, Liam and Josh Kool, Piper Crawley, Cedric Taylor, Tate and Finn Aumann all took control at the grid games, managing their nerves and putting on great displays.
Finn Aumann and Josh Kool umpired senior football last year, while the others will be shortly rolled out by EGUA, director of umpiring, David Pachl.
“We are looking to get the youngsters umpiring at local level when the junior competition starts, hopefully will have some graduate to senior football in the next 12 months,” Pachl said.
The EGUA are still on the search for field, boundary and goal umpires for the upcoming season, training is at the Bairnsdale oval on a Wednesday night from 6pm.
