The Gippsland Lakes Roller Derby (GLRD) is set to roll into term two.
In a region fuelled by passion and adrenaline, the GLRD has been dominating the rink for more than a decade in Sale and Bairnsdale.
This community sports organisation, known for its fierce and skilful players, has become a beloved fixture in Bairnsdale.
With their lightning-fast moves and strategic gameplay, these local roller derby warriors have captured the hearts of locals and fans alike, the energy they bring to stadiums electrifying. as the teams clash and jostle for victory.
This month, we will see GLRD members travelling across the state to compete in the Statewide Stampede with members of other clubs from across the state that make up Team Regional Victoria (TRV).
The Statewide Stampede Victorian Roller Derby Tournament starts on Saturday, April 20, is being hosted by the Ballarat Roller Derby League in Daylesford, Victoria.
The events are live streamed for spectators that are unable to attend.
But it’s not just about the competition, GLRD has created a tight-knit community, fostering friendships and empowerment.
They welcome skaters of all skill levels, providing a supportive environment for growth and development.

Term two starts in Bairnsdale on Sunday, April 21, with learn to skate lessons (age five plus) from 9.30am-10.30am, followed by the roller derby (16 plus), from 10.30am to noon.
Skates and protective gear are available for hire.
