Bairnsdale’s boxer Blake “Bomber” Wells will return to the ring this Saturday night keen to make another statement after a career-defining performance in his last outing in Sale on March 23.
Wells will tackle tough super middleweight, Flin Makeham at the Pullman Hotel in Melbourne, part of Will Tomlinson’s huge Wildfighter card which will feature 13 action-packed bouts.
Makeham is no slouch, having fought for an Australian title, his record of four wins, four losses and two draws, certainly not a true reflection of his ability.
But he will have his hands full with the determined Wells, who scored the biggest win of his career stopping tough Filipino veteran Arnel Tinampay at the Gippsland Regional Sporting Complex at his last outing. Tinampay had never been stopped in his previous 55-fight career, having fought some tough boxers throughout Australia and Asia.
The super fit Wells was straight back into the gym after that fight, keen to take up any opportunities that arise in what he hopes will be a huge 2024 after a disappointing 2023 which saw him taste defeat for the first time, twice at hands of the relentless Tej Singh.
Eastcoast Boxing Club coach, Paul Carroll, who was in awe of his boxer’s last performance, is expecting a similar performance this Saturday night.
“Bomber’s in great shape and in a great space at the moment, he leaves no stone unturned in his preparation and he will be looking to a make another huge statement at the Pullman Hotel,” Carroll said.
Carroll is predicting big things in 2024 for his stable stars, Wells and “Mad” Max Reeves, with Saturday night another step in the process to stardom.
