Five police units attended at an address in Calvert Street, Bairnsdale, last Monday after a man had barricaded himself inside a house.
Police responded to a call regarding a family violence incident at around 8pm following reports a 50-year-old woman inside the house was at risk while a 36-year-old man remained there.
She was removed from the house for safety reasons before the man then barricaded himself in the property and allegedly began smashing it up with a pole.
A police negotiator was able convince the man to come outside and he was subsequently tasered after police suspected he might self-harm.
He was taken to hospital for taser aftercare and a mental health assessment.
Police allege the man had been smoking cannabis since early morning.
The Family Violence Investigation Unit will now take over the police probe.
