During term one, 29 budding dancers joined the Omeo Dance Group with Jackie Trapp as the dance instructor.
All ages from three to adult have an opportunity to get involved in movement activities, including ballet and tap.
With the support of the Omeo Community Hub, who are assisting with funding from a grant from East Gippsland Community Foundation to pay for the Omeo Hall Hire, the children can have private and group lessons on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week.
The Hub also is used by the parents and other siblings. It’s a great place for parents to meet and chat. With a great toy box for the little ones to use, it’s a busy time while the lessons are happening.
New for term two will be movement classes for adults with an emphasis on the 50+ age group to enhance flexibility and balance. Any age is able to attend this session.
Also new in term two is tap dancing – no special shoes are required and no previous experience either. The aim of the hub is to encourage movement for all ages and you’re never too old to learn something new.
Jackie, with a background in international dance performance in Europe, has stated: “It’s wonderful to see so many children enjoying the benefits of movement and learning new skills”.
“We’re so happy to be able to assist with the organisation of the dance program and to also be able to offer other programs to young parents,” Omeo Community Hub current coordinator, Ronda Manhire, said.
“Someone of Jackie’s experience doesn’t come to Omeo very often and we’re lucky to have the opportunity presented to us.”
Term two sessions begin on May 6 for eight weeks. Anyone who is interested should contact the Hub or look for the posters up around Omeo.
