National Palliative Care Week is an initiative by Palliative Care Australia allowing Australians to connect with the ‘people at the heart of quality palliative care’, so they get a deeper understanding of what palliative care is.
In 2024 National Palliative Care Week will run from May 19 to 25, but in Gippsland we think we can go one better and host a National Palliative Care month.
To celebrate, the Gippsland Region Palliative Care Consortium, with the assistance of the Gippsland Primary Health Network, will be hosting a series of screenings of Live The Life You Please at local cinemas and libraries, throughout the month of May.
Live The Life You Please is a film-led social impact campaign that will change the way viewers think about the last chapter of life.
Told by medical professionals, patients and their families, it is an intimate portrait of the end-of-life experience and makes profound observations about life, death and what happens in between.
It will make viewers smile, laugh, laugh harder and occasionally shed a tear as it shares the stories of a diverse range of Australians experiencing their last chapter.
The campaign aims to improve awareness about palliative care, advocate for increased access to essential palliative care and related health care services for all Australians and help to start important conversations about living the life you please until the very end.
Gippsland Region Palliative Care Consortium is looking forward to having a great month of May and raising awareness of an important but often avoided topic.
