Five local ladies from Dragons Abreast Gippsland Waratahs Dragon Boat Club have signed up to go to France for the 2026 International Breast Cancer Regatta and Festival.
The event celebrates health and wellness for breast cancer survivors and their supporters. More than 4000 paddlers from all over the world, including a record 120 paddlers from across Australia, will attend the event that brings together exercise, health, research and fun.
Two years ago Dragons Abreast Australia (DAA) was struggling to regain its feet after the long service of dedicated volunteers, but a new board stepped forward to reinvigorate the organisation for breast cancer survivors and supporters.
DAA has now gone from strength to strength and members of the local Dragons Abreast Gippsland Waratahs Club have attended the 25th anniversary of DAA in Penrith in 2023, are signed up for the Ord River Marathon in June 24, are booked in for the Pink Power Paddle in Hobart in October 24, and are coming on board for France 2026.
It’s exhausting, but the best fun to travel with friends with a sense of adventure, purpose and fitness.
If you have been touched by breast cancer, or would just like to ‘Come n Try’ paddling, you’ll find the club at the Howitt Park Boat Ramp on Sunday mornings at 9.30am.
