Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company’s production of Anything Goes finally took to the stage at The Forge Theatre and Arts Hub last Friday, May 10.
Opening night audiences were welcomed to the theatre foyer with a glass of sparkling wine and complimentary supper provided by Bairnsdale Production Line sponsor, New Leaf Café.
It was then time to watch as the SS American sailed into action and what a show it was.
From the opening bars of the overture the audience were transported to the wonderful era of the 1930s and the entire cast lifted to the occasion.
Attending opening night were Donna and Pete Bailey, new residents to Paynesville.
The couple say they are long time theatre lovers and always make an effort to support their local community theatre wherever they live.
Brendan Flynn and Lauren Austin were enjoying a kid free date night and were impressed by the quality of performances. Lauren said she has always had a love of theatre but this was Brendan’s first experience of musical theatre.
Company president, Susan Gibson, said she was so proud at how the cast and crew came together to produce a fantastic opening weekend of shows.
“Once again I am in awe of the talent that abounds in East Gippsland from performers, production team, musicians, backstage crew and technical expertise,” Susan said.
Director, Beverley Campbell, echoed Susan’s comments about the efforts of the cast and crew and suggested “if you haven’t already purchased a ticket for the show I would encourage you to do so. There are only four more performances of this abbreviated season, so don’t miss out.”
Anything Goes will be at The Forge Theatre for one more weekend of shows, with performances at 7.30pm on this Thursday, May 16, Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18.
Sunday’s final performance will be a matinee at 2pm.
