A date has been set and a glorious backdrop secured for the next Mountain Cattlemen’s Get Together, where the cattlemen’s heritage will be the focus.
‘Livingstone Waters’, Omeo, owned by the Ferguson family, and set along the Livingstone Creek, will host the event on October 18-20.
Local MCAV liaison officers, Amanda Pendergast and Amber Connley, are looking forward to hosting about 3500 people at the event.
“We’re well supported up here,” Amanda said.
“This event brings tourism and money into the area, and we want to showcase events that continue the cattlemen traditions.”
“We’ll run the traditional events like the Packhorse Race and the Cattlemen’s Cup that includes cattle handling, but people will need to stay tuned for the feature events to be announced.
“We’re also planning on holding a big heritage display.”
The two women belong to local families that have been part of the Omeo and Benambra district for generations, and it’s those families they want to celebrate.
“We want to have a ‘local legends’ section,” Amber said.
“Our towns are generational and this kind of event absolutely represents the people here.”
The Get Together was last held at the same property in 2018, thanks to the generosity of the Ferguson family, and there has been a significant revamp to the layout design.
Last year’s Get Together was held at Licola, with Merrijig the host in 2022 and Oxley in 2019, and COVID taking out the 2020-21 events.
MCAV secretary, Rhyll McCormack, said tickets to the MCAV Get-Together would be released in June.
“Members tickets will be available at a discounted rate and membership is available on our website,” Rhyll said.
