In the Mitchell River National Park you can find a scenic and culturally significant walk that starts and ends at a beautiful little picnic spot.
The walk itself includes the Bluff lookout, which can only be described as breathtaking.
It’s also part of the Bataluk Cultural Trail, which explores Gunaikurnai Aboriginal history and culture.
A Nargun, according to Gunaikurnai tribal legends, is a fierce half-human, half-stone creature that lived in the Den of Nargun, a cave under a rock overhang behind a small waterfall.
3. Fishing

Hearing the sea waves behind you adds to the magical atmosphere.
8. Bairnsdale to Orbost on the rail trail
The rail trail itself is worth a few days’ adventure, however, our hot tip is the beautiful scenery and interesting bridges and nature between Bairnsdale and Orbost. The ride itself stretches 100km. Bairnsdale and Orbost both are worth spending time looking around. The trail is family-friendly so pack the car and put the bikes on the back and give Bairnsdale to Orbost a spin.

11. Lakes Entrance Boat Cruise
You would think there’s not a lot more to see in Lakes Entrance that can’t be seen from the lookout, but seeing Lakes Entrance and surrounds from a boat adds a whole lot to the magic. See the seals basking in the sun, or the local dolphins, wave to fishing families and take in every little cove and inlet’s beauty. Some cruises have options to stop in Metung, which can add something special to the trip.
