Local Phoebe McGrath has shone at Swinburne University of Technology’s School of Design and Architecture Graduate Exhibition, GradX 2023.
Relocating to Melbourne for study in 2021, Phoebe has recently completed a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at Swinburne University of Technology in Hawthorn.
Phoebe was awarded two major awards in front of hundreds of industry partners, university visitors, staff and students for her performance and accomplishments in her architecture degree.
Phoebe received the 2023 Award for Academic Excellence for highest grade point average (GPA) of the graduating cohort for the Bachelor of Design (Architecture), in addition to consistent results and commendable engagement throughout the degree.
“I have always been an advocate for being involved as much as you can in your schooling and any other experiences you may have; it’s amazing what you get out of giving something a go,” Phoebe said.
Phoebe further received the Swinburne Professional Practice Award 2023 for excellence in project management, technical abilities, leadership, communication, and teamwork, sponsored by national award-winning Architecture firm Bates Smart. Phoebe was also a member in a group project that was shortlisted for excellence in building information management (BIM).
“I owe much of my successes to my family, who were my biggest support team. The last three years have been challenging coming off the back of the pandemic, combined with an intense workload and being away from home. I was fortunate enough to receive the George Alexander Foundation Scholarship that made the financial burden of moving away and studying full time just that little bit easier. All of it has been worth it in the end,” Phoebe said.
Phoebe looks forward to beginning her career in design, planning and construction.
“I can’t wait to see what the future holds and where my experiences take me,” Phoebe said.
