The Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) is looking forward to hosting a huge reunion over the Australia Day long weekend.
The event will culminate on Saturday, January 27, with a function at Club Eastwood, where the BCA celebrates 100 years.
The 100-year celebrations were scheduled for 2020, but were quelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The weekend will begin with a meet and greet on Friday night at the Bairnsdale City Oval, an interlude to an entertaining days cricket at Lucknow Oval.
Saturday will see the playing of the semi-finals and grand finals of the BCA 20/20 competition, with a barbecue taking place at 4pm.
A crowd of around 400-500 people are expected to attend the reunion night, including former test players Cameron White and Damien Fleming.
White is one of two locals to have represented Australia in all three forms of the game in the recent era, the other Sophie Molineux, unfortunately will be unable to attend due to playing commitments.
Fleming will no doubt be keen to tell the crowd about his test hat-trick and the correct way to wrap your ornaments in plastic.
BCA president, Ian Kyle, is looking forward to a great weekend, allowing people to catch up with former friends and foes.
“It will be a celebration about everything great about this association and what it has achieved in over 100 years,” Kyle said.
The night will see the presentation of three teams, featuring the best players of eras, which is sure to create plenty of interest and debate.
“There won’t be a huge number of speeches and presentations, its all about people mingling and moving around the room and catching up,” Kyle said.
Kyle reported there has been plenty of interest from all around the state from people looking to come and catch, including ex Lindenow player Murray Elliott, who now lives in Hamilton and is in his 90s.
Ticket sales for the evening have been progressing well, with Kyle reporting there a still a limited number available.
“There’s been plenty of interest, people are keen to take advantage of the long weekend and make the effort and return to our great region,” Kyle said.
Tickets are available through the local clubs and BCA secretary, Rachael Coxhill.
