A contingent of members from the Bairnsdale Rowing Club competed at the Rutherglen Rowing Regatta recently, bringing home their share of gold.
Always a highlight on the rowing calendar, 400 athletes from across Victoria, took to the water on the glorious Lake Moodemere, nestled among the vineyards of north eastern Victoria.
Bairnsdale rowing crew members were victorious on both days with the female “C” grade coxed four winning gold.
Louise Avery, Julia Heslop, Jo Campbell, Belinda Pownall and Carol McCauliffe coming in ahead of two Melbourne crews and the strong Corio Bay Rowing Club on the tough 800m course.
Bairnsdale member, Ronald Alexander, rowing with Powerhouse Rowing Club in the male masters coxed four, out gunned other strong crews from Powerhouse Melbourne and Albury-Wodonga clubs over the 500m sprint course to take the gold.
Over the entire weekend the Bairnsdale Rowing Club also gained 10 silvers and 11 bronze medals in a range of races.
The club are hoping to take an even bigger contingent to Rutherglen in 2025.
