The exciting Hobie Fishing Series 15 will bring Bemm River to life when it kicks off its 2024 calendar next month.
The kayak fishing tournament has already received 105 entries for the February 3-4 event, with another week until they officially close.
The field will include last year’s winner, Andrew Death, and the defending Hobie Australia Champion, Steven Pryke, who won the title in November at Mallacoota.
Fanatical and fastidious, Pryke is deadly in the lakes, rivers and estuaries of East Gippsland and will again be the man they all have to beat.
The tournament is a cast and retrieve, lure and fly only, and involves an angler returning to the weigh-in area, with their heaviest bag of their live and legal fish (five per day).
Competitors will be able to register from 6am on both days, with a briefing following at 6.40am and fishing sessions running from 7am to 2pm.
The event winner determined by the highest combined total over two days, with all fish released back into the water after weigh in.
At this stage the event has attracted two junior, three woman and 16 veteran anglers among the early bird nominations.
The event is always a great boost for the local economy, as well as showcasing everything that is great about our picturesque region.
