Bairnsdale’s Relay for Life is celebrating its 16th event this year.
Relay for Life, this year scheduled for Saturday March 16, 2pm to 10pm at the Lucknow Recreation Reserve, is a fun and moving experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services. The registration desk will be open from noon.
Relay is a chance for the community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, those going through a cancer experience and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost and to raise money to help save more lives.
“How exciting to be part of such a great community event, helping to raise much-needed funds for cancer research as well as help cancer patients and their families,” chair of the Bairnsdale Relay for Life, Yvette Westfield, said.
Fundraising has just begun with the goal set at $50,000, while 11 teams have already registered with the aim of gathering 15.
All registrations can be done online by logging on to the Bairnsdale Relay for Life 2024 event, and you can register right up until the event kicks off at 2pm.
The Survivors and Carers Walk gets underway at 2.15 pm while the candlelight ceremony starts at 8.30pm, with participants asked to write on a candlebag – brown to remember a loved one, and white for those going through a cancer journey.
There will be plenty of live entertainment as well, so if you’re interested in performing and supporting a great cause, contact Yvette (details available at the Bairnsdale Advertiser office).
