The running of the 2024 Bairnsdale Cup is just around the corner, with Bairnsdale Racing Club currently putting the finishing touches on arrangements for East Gippsland’s biggest race day.
The $70,000 Bairnsdale Cup is the region’s highest profile race and this year it will be run on Sunday, March 24.
The Bairnsdale Racing Club was delighted to announce that former jockey and now media personality, Casey Bruce, will be the guest speaker at the official luncheon.
Around horses from a young age, Casey evolved from a show and dressage career, which included success at the major royal competitions, into the hustle, bustle and glamour of a career as a jockey.
In an 18 year career that was plagued by weight issues, she rode more than 300 winners, saluting for high profile trainers like Robert Smerdon, Matt Ellerton, John Symons, Sheila Laxon, Anthony Cummings, and the legend Bart Cummings.
During her riding career, Casey was introduced to the media and a gentleman, who she called dad, respected broadcaster, the late Rob Gaylard.
He recognised potential in Casey and started to train her in interviewing, television, radio presentations and much more.
That training has enabled her to become a highly accomplished and successful racing media host, with fashions on the field her speciality, as well partaking in trophy presentations, talking to women’s groups, equine commentary at Australia’s biggest events, corporate functions and much more.
These days Casey continues to juggle these roles with motherhood, an occasional trackwork appearance at Mark Kavanagh Racing and a full-time role with industry trainer, Skillinvest.
She has plenty of horses at home including everyone’s favourite, the steely spirited grey, one of the all time greatest, Chautauqua.
Casey is one of racing’s more interesting tales and tickets are available for the luncheon by contacting the Bairnsdale Racing Club.
