Local pickleball enthusiast, Kevin Dowie, recently played in the winning Victorian Country side that defeated Victoria Metro at Pearcedale.
The event was conducted over two days with the first day being for advanced players and the second day for intermediate players.
Each day comprised around 50 players vying for the prize of champion team.
“Country players came from all parts of Victoria and it was great fun meeting new people and challenging yourself against other players in this fast-growing sport,” Dowie said.
It was the second year this event has been held, with the City taking the honours in the inaugural year.
This year’s trophy went the way of the Victorian Country 109-99.
“Thanks go to Aaron Blitz, who is captain of the Melbourne Mavericks and Monty’s Pickleball Academy for organising and hosting the event. Having seen firsthand how this sport is growing, not only in Melbourne but being taken up in regional and country Victoria, I look forward to the sport growing more in popularity in Lakes Entrance,” Dowie said.
Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, suitable for all fitness, age and skill levels.
