Bairnsdale Football Netball Club held its 2024 best and fairest counts last Sunday at the Bairnsdale City Oval, with Will Mitchell and Sally Deller capturing the major awards.
The consistent Mitchell, who polled well in the Gippsland League’s Trodd Award and Rodda Medal, finished ahead of popular ruckman Ethan East who had another outstanding season in the ruck for the Redlegs.
Dellar was an important part of the Bairnsdale resurgence up the ladder in “A” grade netball where they made the finals in 2024. Dellar finished ahead of the hard working Alison Dwyer.
In the reserves football ruckman Liam Bleyswk claimed the premier award from Charlie Mann.
Bleyswk has been in outstanding form in recent weeks, unfortunately his efforts weren’t enough to get the Redlegs home last Saturday in the grand final.
Hopefully Mann’s award will be make him feel a little better after suffering a serious lower leg injury last Saturday at the Morwell Recreation Reserve.
In “B” grade netball the best and fairest was won by Charli Young with Olivia Rees runner-up, while in “C” grade the winner was Annora Virgo and runner-up Mikayla Shaw.
Exciting youngster Max Neate, who impressed at senior level late in the season, took out the thirds best and fairest award from another young gun, Ryan Cullinan.
In 17 and under netball the major trophy went to Sophie Scott, with the runner-up Eve Sabell.
Hard-running youngster Jobe Froud was a clear winner in the under 16s with Harry McGuin the runner-up.
Olivia Pearson backed up her Gippsland League under 15 best and fairest with victory in the Bairnsdale award, with Chloe Allen rewarded for a great season with the runner-up.
