A car fire last Saturday on the Princes Highway east of Stratford caused delays for traffic heading in both directions.
A Holden Captiva travelling towards Stratford caught fire and was quickly engulfed by flames.
The driver managed to flee the vehicle, without injury, grabbing some of his possessions prior to the fire taking hold.
Three fire trucks attended to put out the fire, as police blocked the road and diverted traffic.
The delay inconvenienced many Bairnsdale Football Netball Club supporters who were heading to Morwell to support the Redlegs reserves and under 15 netball side in the 2024 Gippsland League grand finals.
Unfortunately, the Holden driver’s luck must have rubbed off on the Bairnsdale sides, as they were both defeated.
