Car in tree

27 October 2020
in Local News

A local woman in her 20s was airlifted to Melbourne after smashing her car into a tree on Forge Creek Road this morning (Tuesday).

Police and emergency services rushed to the scene at about 8.45am after being alerted to the accident.

The female driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was trapped inside and had to be cut from the wreckage.

A wet road and rainy conditions are believed to have contributed to the accident.

An investigation is underway.

CAR OFF ROAD

A woman, in her 50s, and her male passenger, in his 20s, had a lucky escape after the vehicle they were in ran off the Great Alpine Road in Swifts Creek on Monday afternoon.

The pair was heading toward Swifts Creek from Omeo in a Honda Civic with the words “Jesus Is Coming” painted on the side, when the accident occurred at about 3pm.

Police said conditions were wet at the time and the female driver may have lost control of the small car.

Both the driver and her passenger remarkably didn’t sustain any injuries.

Police described the vehicle as a write-off.

The two had travelled to Wodonga wanting to cross into New South Wales, to reportedly visit a dying relative, but were refused entry and were heading back to the Mornington Peninsula.

TAMBO CROSSING CRASH

A driver who overtook another vehicle on the Great Alpine Road, at Double Bridges at about 6am this morning (Tuesday), had to be towed from the scene.

Police said the accident occurred on a blind corner of the Great Alpine Road, near Tambo Crossing.

METUNG REVELLERS SENT PACKING

Police moved to close down a grand final house party in Metung on Saturday evening.

Acting on a report, police visited the house in Storth Rye Avenue at about 6.30pm where they found 14 young adults aged in their early 20s.

It’s understood the group, who are local to the area, had rented the Airbnb for the weekend for a grand final party.

Police issued 14 infringement notices of $1652 each for breaching the Chief Health Officer’s directive, for a total $23,128.

The group was then were sent packing and the owner of the house notified.
