Mountain bikes from across Victoria will converge on Omeo this weekend for the inaugural Cattlemen 100 MTB.
As of yesterday there were 105 registered riders ready to compete in a grueling test at an elevation of 12,000 feet, or 3650 metres.
The race spans 12 hours and is a total of 105 miles, or 175 kilometres. Event manager, Elise Pendergast,
said it was great to be able to bring people to the area again, especially after the bushfires and COVID-19.
“I’ve noticed an increasing number of mountain bikes in the area,” Ms Pendergast said.
“That just shows there is buzz about the place and the event already.
“In terms of local business it lets tourists know about our area as well as the developments happening with
the local pump/skills track almost complete.
“Businesses are already being booked for accommodation and others are preparing for an influx of people.”
Ms Pendergast said the race has two ambassadors, cycling champions Jeremy Hunt and Peta Mullens.
There is also a race village at Livingstone Park in Omeo near the
river, complete with a mural created Melbourne-based former local artist, Robyn Grove, who has created pieces in iconic locations across Melbourne.
Ms Pendergast said the event had received a lot of local interest in volunteering and registrations.
“We are ready to go with COVID- 19 safe measures in place nothing is stopping us now,” she said.
