Wy Yung has won its second match of the season, defeating St Mary’s Nagle by 46 runs at Bullumwaal Road in round five of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association.
Despite the win, the Tigers sit in fifth place, but are two games outside of the top four, who have already gained separation from the pack.
Nagle have only registered the solitary win thus far this season, and currently sit in seventh place on the table, with plenty of work if they are to emulate last year’s effort when they made the finals.
Chasing 185 to win, the Saints were quickly in trouble at 3/11, as the Tiger new ball combination of Steve Bertino (1/24) and Darcy Murray (3/33) obtained plenty of movement with the new ball.
Harvey Spaxman (16) and Brayden McCarrey (59) added some stability, with the game almost back at a status quo at 4/69.
When McCarrey was caught by Ben Saxon off the bowling of Darcy Murray, reverting the score to 6/99, it was going to take a huge effort from the Saints to get home.
A 23-run unison between Brandon Sauer (43) and Cooper Young for the seventh wicket, gave some hope, but Damian Vicary 4/28 and youngster Harry Forbes (2/6) had little trouble mopping up the tail, as the disappointing Saints lost 4/16.
