The crew of Gen XY combined to bring the boat to Metung for the Etchells 2025 Australian championship, and went home with two trophies.
Kane Sinclair brought the hull of Gen XY to Metung from her normal port in the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
Peter McNeill brought his AUS1082 sails to Metung from Lake Macquarie Yacht Club, and was the helm of Gen XY.
The pair asked ocean racer Andrew Smith to be their third crew member.
“We were trying to get enough crew to enter two good boats, in the end, we were struggling and I said to Peter (McNeil), let’s join together and take one boat,” Kane Sinclair said.
Their decision paid off, with the trio awarded with the Masters and Grand Masters trophies from the Etchells 2025 Australian championship.
McNeill, at the helm, was awarded the Masters trophy, and the team was awarded the Grand Masters trophy.
The Gen XY team finished five times in the top five throughout the regatta, finishing in fourth position overall.
The Gen XY team finished one place in front of the next placed Masters qualifier, Flying High 2, with Jeanne-Claude Strong on the helm.
Flying High 2 was consistently in the top 10 finishers of each race, with a win in race seven and two third placings.
The next Masters qualifier in the series was Great White Hunter, with David Dunn on the helm, and Sandy Higgins and Peter Bellingham as crew.
They finished six times in the top 10, with their best result being two third placings and a fourth.
