The Heyfield Bowling Club hosted the opening rounds of the prestigious Gippsland Bowls Region state triples championship last Sunday.
Despite the sign of intermittent rain, which proved to be a nuisance, both the first round and quarter finals were completed.
The semi-finals and grand finals will be played this Sunday at Heyfield, with the semis getting underway at 9.30am, and finales to be played at 1pm.
In the men’s semi-finals the high profile combination of Rohan Kelly (Heyfield), Brad Montant (Bairnsdale) and Dennis O’Keefe (West Sale) will take on the defending champions, Paynesville duo, Jack Sharman and Michael Better, and Lindenow’s Peter Baylis.
In the other side of the draw, the West Sale trio of Denis Hogan, Russell Lambourn and Brendan Addison will go head to head with the Stratford combination of Phillip Crowder, Matt Telling and Jason White.
Whilst in the women’s, the Lakes Entrance trio of Jo Martin, Margaret Brandhoj and Julie Simpson are opposed to Sale’s Joan Camm, Margaret Sceney and Judy Corrigan.
While the other semi-final pits Sale’s Jan Morton, Pam Carter and Gail McKenzie against the Paynesville combination of Rhonda Sadovsky, Margery Nathan and Glenis Bugeja.
The winners of the grand finals, will earn the right to represent the region at the state championships in Bendigo in April.
