Mountain Biking East Gippsland hosted round two of the Victorian Downhill Mountain Bike Series at the Mount Taylor Mountain Bike Park last weekend.
The two day event was a great success, despite the tough weather conditions, with more than 220 riders participating in a competitive environment on a tricky and fast course.
A huge logistical exercise, the event ran smoothly due to the efforts of a large group of dedicated Mountain Biking East Gippsland club members, amazing volunteers and generous sponsors.
The club was thankful for the efforts of all the volunteers who sat, stood, drove, cooked, coordinated, set up, packed up and cleaned over the weekend, with everyone’s commitment and support to the event and the club greatly appreciated.
Saturday offered up high temperatures and a dusty track for the designated practice runs, before Sunday presented wet humid conditions which kept all the riders on their toes.
The highlight on the track was the effort by local superstar Hudson Tarling taking out first place in his division (under 19 men) and also posting the quickest time of the day.
Tarling recorded a sensational time of three minutes, 50 seconds, four seconds quicker than Hayden Stead’s time in winning the elite men.
Other winners included Remy Young (under 15 women), Liam Steinlauf (under 15 men), Tilly Boadle (under 17 women), Harvey Brooks (under 17 men), Amelia Freeman (under 19 women), Rowan Jones (veteran men), Danica Frith (veteran women), Andrew Frith (masters men), Kaaren Freeman (super masters woman), David Tarling (super masters men), Emily Haeusler (sport women), Kerrin Coleman (sport men), Dale Lumsden (expert men) and Elise Empey (elite women).
