Bairnsdale has maintained its hold on the top of the ladder in round seven of the Gippsland Bowls Region Superleague, with a shellacking of West Sale last Saturday at Wurruk.
With stifling heat across the region, a number of matches weren’t completed, resulting in the splitting of the points.
The reigning premier was in ominous form, clean sweeping, winning 84-35, led by James Clay, Stewart Pyers, James McCausland and Neil Watts, who saluted 33-9, which included an elusive eight.
Adam Easton, Geoff Woodward, Collen Smith and Brad Montant were winners 29-10, with Brian Casey, Peter Rowe, Jarrad Sergi and Stephen Sroczynski joining in the fun, saluting 29-10, West Sale sit in 10th spot after the loss.
Lakes Entrance 2 moved back up to second with a hard fought win over Paynesville, 65-50, who now drop to seventh, with plenty of work to do if they are to emulate last years grand final experience.
Paynesville threatened in a couple of the rinks, but Lakes 2 rallied late, winning all three in an impressive performance against a fellow contender, 65-50.
Victorious for a Lakes 2 were Jeff Wilson, Clement and Lillibeth Hochkins, Boyd McPhee (20-15), and Glenn Barker, Wallace Mason, Barry Roberts and Mike McKay (22-19), all carrying on their good form from last week against Metung.
Michael Bratt, Maurice Carroll, Johannes Kool and Harley Johnson hitting some form this week, victorious 23-16.
Third placed Lindenow’s impressive season continued with an outstanding win over current fourth ranked outfit, Lakes Entrance 1, 63-47.
Peter Baylis, Alan Pincott, Michael Giddings and Stephen Brill led the victory, scoring 28-14, while Donald Banks, David Tong, Lloyd Hammond and Anthony Edwards backed up their recent form, claiming a 21-15 win.
Stephen Smith, Daniel Roberts, Bill Rowley and Kevin Brown worked hard to get a rink back for Lakes Entrance 1, 18-14 winners.
Metung remain inside the top five after sharing the points with Sale 2, while it was a similar outcome in the Howitt Park and Sale 1 clash, and Heyfield verses Stratford.
In the only other completed match, sixth placed Maffra defeated Orbost at home, 66-23, with the rinks playing reduced rinks.
Winners for Maffra were John Marshall, Geoff Landy, Brett Hodgins, Ronnie Orchard (27-3), Geoff Bedggood, Lester Merlo, Jeffrey Wheaton, Craig Anderson (18-9), Glenn Crawford, Lewis Marston, Lyal and Michael Roberts (21-11).
