Jarrad Sergi draws shot on the mat in his sides comprehensive defeat of West Sale, reigning premier Bairnsdale currently sit on top of the ladder after seven rounds.

Bairnsdale has maintained its hold on the top of the ladder in round seven of the Gippsland Bowls Region Superleague, with a shellacking of West Sale last Saturday at Wurruk.

With stifling heat across the region, a number of matches weren’t completed, resulting in the splitting of the points.

The reigning premier was in ominous form, clean sweeping, winning 84-35, led by James Clay, Stewart Pyers, James McCausland and Neil Watts, who saluted 33-9, which included an elusive eight.

Adam Easton, Geoff Woodward, Collen Smith and Brad Montant were winners 29-10, with Brian Casey, Peter Rowe, Jarrad Sergi and Stephen Sroczynski joining in the fun, saluting 29-10, West Sale sit in 10th spot after the loss.

Lakes Entrance 2 moved back up to second with a hard fought win over Paynesville, 65-50, who now drop to seventh, with plenty of work to do if they are to emulate last years grand final experience.

Paynesville threatened in a couple of the rinks, but Lakes 2 rallied late, winning all three in an impressive performance against a fellow contender, 65-50.

Victorious for a Lakes 2 were Jeff Wilson, Clement and Lillibeth Hochkins, Boyd McPhee (20-15), and Glenn Barker, Wallace Mason, Barry Roberts and Mike McKay (22-19), all carrying on their good form from last week against Metung.

Michael Bratt, Maurice Carroll, Johannes Kool and Harley Johnson hitting some form this week, victorious 23-16.

Third placed Lindenow’s impressive season continued with an outstanding win over current fourth ranked outfit, Lakes Entrance 1, 63-47.

Peter Baylis, Alan Pincott, Michael Giddings and Stephen Brill led the victory, scoring 28-14, while Donald Banks, David Tong, Lloyd Hammond and Anthony Edwards backed up their recent form, claiming a 21-15 win.

Stephen Smith, Daniel Roberts, Bill Rowley and Kevin Brown worked hard to get a rink back for Lakes Entrance 1, 18-14 winners.

Metung remain inside the top five after sharing the points with Sale 2, while it was a similar outcome in the Howitt Park and Sale 1 clash, and Heyfield verses Stratford.

In the only other completed match, sixth placed Maffra defeated Orbost at home, 66-23, with the rinks playing reduced rinks.

Winners for Maffra were John Marshall, Geoff Landy, Brett Hodgins, Ronnie Orchard (27-3), Geoff Bedggood, Lester Merlo, Jeffrey Wheaton, Craig Anderson (18-9), Glenn Crawford, Lewis Marston, Lyal and Michael Roberts (21-11).

THIS WEEK

Orbost v Lakes Entrance 2; Sale 2 v Paynesville; Sale v Maffra; Stratford v Howitt Park; Lindenow v West Sale; Bairnsdale v Heyfield; Lakes Entrance 1 v Metung.
