The 396th edition of the Bairnsdale parkrun held last Saturday morning was well patronised with 120 people taking the opportunity to walk, jog and run the picturesque five kilometre course that takes in a scenic route along the Mitchell River.
The event attracted 26 first timers and saw 10 people record new personal bests times, with representatives of five different clubs taking part.
First past the post was local runner Brendan Sexton in the slick time of 17 minutes and 32 seconds.
He finished ahead of Justin Ivory (18.10) and Ben Saxon (18.23). The first woman home was international triathlete Charlotte McShane in 19 minutes and 27 seconds, in fifth place overall.
Running groups represented in the event were Hitt Factory, Melbourne Frontrunners, Rivieria Triathlon Club, TXR Runners and Derek Zoolander Centre For Kids Who Can’t Run Good.
The event was made possible by the efforts of seven volunteers, Gemma Wilkie, Jayme Gilhooley, Mali Bromley, Trent Howell, Chad Bromley, Dallas Howell and Alisha Caldwell.
The Bairnsdale parkrun started on March 12, 2016 and since 3509 participants have completed 23,290 parkruns covering a total distance of 116,450 km, including 2969 new personal bests.
