Home at last in Wairewa

Roslyn and Rob Geddes have only this month moved into their new home on their small acreage at Wairewa.
The couple was among the many victims in East Gippsland who lost their home in the Black Summer bushfires in the final days of December 2019.
In the small community of Wairewa, located a few kilometres off the Princes Highway between Nowa Nowa and Orbost, their home was one of 11 to be engulfed in flames as the fierce fire wove a schizophrenic trail through the valley of mostly farm buildings.
“I feel relieved we’re finally in,” said Mr Geddes as he sits on the couch beside his wife, Roslyn, for whom he cares full time.
The spacious Anchor Home arrived in two sections on the back of a couple of large trucks, engineered to undertake such a task.
“They just managed to squeeze under the trestle bridge,” said Mr Geddes in reference to the historically significant wooden railway bridge, known as O’Grady’s Bridge, which was partially burnt in the bushfires.
