K129 - 1110 Tigers pluck victory Ladder leader Wy Yung capped off a stellar season last Saturday, taking down Lucknow in the “C” grade grand final. It was an even first quarter from both sides, with neither wanting to give up control of the ball. Excellent shooting from both the Tigers and the Magpies kept the margin even, until Lucknow eventually pulled ahead to establish a handy five-goal lead by quarter time. The lead didn’t last long for the Magpies, with the Tigers clawing back into the second quarter. Wy Yung’s strong defensive pressure in and around the ring led to forced passes from the Magpies which were easily intercepted by the Tigers’ defence. By half time, Wy Yung had not only levelled the margin, but had pulled ahead by one goal. Wy Yung’s pressure didn’t stop going into the final half as the match became more intense and physical. Despite both teams going goal-for-goal and the crowd becoming more enthusiastic, Wy Yung kept its head, maintaining its strong defensive pressure down the court and quickly converting to goals. It was Wy Yung’s consistency which kept it ahead of the game, eventually getting over the line by three goals. Wy Yung’s Caitlin Woodward was named best-on-court for her consistent work in defence. Final score: Wy Yung 36 d Lucknow 33. BOMBERS WIN “D” Boisdale Briagolong maintained its unbeaten record, coming out on top against Wy Yung by 13 goals. The Bombers came out strong from the start, scoring an impressive 12 goals in the first quarter to lead by four at the first break. It was a similar story as the second quarter began, with the Wy Yung goal shooters working hard to narrow the growing goal margin. Wy Yung’s Halle Jackson took to the court for the second time after playing in the under 17s match against Lakes Entrance, stepping into goal attack while Nikita Hayes was moved from shooting into defence. The changes did little to stop the Bomber onslaught, adding 11 goals to lead by nine at half time. Some great shooting by Wy Yung’s Alana Solomon narrowed the margin by three, but it was Boisdale Briagolong’s consistent pressure down the court which allowed the Bombers to run out 13-goal victors. Boisdale Briagolong’s Amelia Handley was named best-on-court. Final score: Boisdale Briagolong 42 d Wy Yung 29. 0422 968 634 info@acemarine.com.au www.acemarine.com.au LOCALLY OWNED, SUPPORTING LOCALS • INSTALLATION • DIAGNOSIS • REPAIR EN25152 PH: 5152 3573 OR 0467 179 552.
