EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS East Gippsland Newspapers | 3 Thursday, April 9, 2026 2026 Field Days experience East Gippsland's Field Days are set to return to the Bairnsdale Aerodrome this Friday, April 10 and Saturday, 11, 2026, with hopes it will be another bumper two-day event. The Field Days are one of the most iconic agricultural event on the East Gippsland calendar, with last year's strong crowd numbers an indication that the East Gippsland Field Days are as much loved by local businesses and families as they always have been. The Field Days have been proudly run by the Lindenow Lions Club since its inception and what many people don't realise is that in addition to supporting rural and agricultural businesses, some of the funds raised from the field days by the Lindenow Lions Club are donated back to local charities and community organisations each year. In recent years the funds from field days have helped Lindenow's and surrounding district's local sporting clubs, schools, kindergartens and various groups to upgrade facilities, purchase new equipment and uniforms, and to complete a range of projects. The East Gippsland Field Days showcase the products, equipment and services of local vendors as well as giving visitors a perfect opportunity to experience the vast range of activity in the vivid and productive region of East Gippsland - a "win-win" situation for both producers and visitors. A LONG HISTORY The East Gippsland Field Days began in 1986, with the first two events held on Trevor and Judy Richardson's property two kilometres west of Lindenow. The first year, May 1–2 1986, there were 83 exhibitors but an increase in exhibitors the following year meant a new site had to be found. Between 1989 and 1992 the Field Days were held on Jim and David Johnston's property at Walpa. The only exception was 1990 when major flooding of the Mitchell River resulted in the cancellation of the Field Day that year. By 1992 there were 130 exhibitors, so a more permanent site had to be found. The Lindenow Lions Club worked with the East Gippsland Shire to secure a site at the Bairnsdale Aerodrome which has accommodated the event's continued growth ever since. The annual event hasn't come without its challenges, with the 2020 Field Days cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however the following year saw the Bairnsdale Aerodrome come alive with visitors who came out to show their support. This year's event promises to bring something for everyone, with children's entertainment, live music, food stalls, sheep dog trials, the much-loved wood chop, whip-cracking and animal shows. As a rural region East Gippsland has significant equipment, product and service needs, making it the best opportunity for visitors to see a vast range of products and services in one location. EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS | East Gippsland Newspapers 4 Thursday, April 9, 2026 A cut above the rest The Lucas family has been attending local field days since the 1970s and quickly recognised events such as the East Gippsland Field Days as an ideal "shop window" for their product. Field days provide potential buyers with the opportunity to see and handle a wide range of machinery in action. While the internet has, in recent years, opened up a new platform for promotion, field days across Australia and internationally remain central to the company's marketing strategy. In fact, online platforms are often used to inform customers about upcoming field day appearances. For new products, such as the Lucas Mill in 1994, field day Inventors Awards have proven invaluable in building exposure and credibility. Visitors to events like the East Gippsland Field Days actively seek out innovation displays, and associated media coverage offers significant benefits for start-ups. The company secured 50 orders from its first three field days in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania in April–May 1994, providing strong motivation to continue showcasing the Lucas Mill to a broader market. In Australia, the company sells directly to customers, while overseas it focuses on securing reliable agents to promote and distribute its products. Once established, these agents are granted exclusive rights within their regions, supported by a proven field day-based sales approach. To date, more than 24,000 sawmills have been sold into over 100 countries. The business operates with approximately 50 international agents and maintains a workforce of around 35 staff at its Wooragee factory. The original goal was to develop an affordable, efficient, easy-to-use and portable sawmill - an objective reflected in the product's uptake across a wide customer base, including farmers, owner-builders, contractors and hobbyists. The original Model 616 (6-inch cut, 16hp), introduced in 1994, remains largely unchanged and is still in production. Since then, three larger models have been added, culminating in the Model 10 (10-inch/254mm cut, 30hp). Across all models, a range of attachments - including slabbing, planing and sanding equipment - has been developed to meet demand for processing large timber slabs. The company continues to demonstrate its products at field days, backed by confidence in their performance and reliability, as well as a three-year manufacturer's warranty. In recent years, the company secured an order for 67 Model 8 sawmills from the Japanese Government for a foreign aid project in the Solomon Islands. Over time, thousands of units have been supplied across the Pacific, supporting selective timber harvesting and the construction of community infrastructure and housing. The ability to produce durable, insect-resistant housing in regions affected by diseases such as malaria has been a key benefit. The company also maintains strong service and support networks through agents, including Farmset in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Feedback from customers has highlighted the role of the sawmills in helping farmers recover from drought, fire and flood, with some crediting the equipment for enabling income through salvaging timber from damaged trees. The Lucas family says it remains committed to attending the East Gippsland Field Days into the future, continuing to showcase its evolving product range to the local community. The Lucas family is bringing their product, the Lucas Mill, to the upcoming East Gippsland Field Days. To date, more than 24,000 sawmills have been sold into over 100 countries. 32 EN37 4 SITE: M7 + N7 EN37029 What we offer Dwelling Additions or Alterations Multi-unit Developments Residential Developments Commercial or Industrial Use Subdivisions Signage Vegetation Removal Liquor Licenses P| (03) 5152 4858 E| admin@devsolvic.com.au A| 48 Bailey Street, Bairnsdale W| www.devsolvic.com.au

EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS East Gippsland Newspapers | 5 Thursday, April 9, 2026 VFF bringing safety and stock tips Promoting farm safety, animal welfare and biosecurity across Victoria is the aim of two Victorian Farmers Federation projects. The Making Our Farms Safer (MOFS) and Stock Sense project teams are set to be at the East Gippsland Field Days this April, on-hand to answer all your farm safety and livestock questions. Stock Sense, which is funded by the Cattle and Sheep and Goats Compensation Funds, helps Victorian livestock producers and hobby farmers maintain and improve their animal health and welfare and farm biosecurity. They do this through free online resources like webinars, factsheets and a monthly newsletter, as well as facilitating educational workshops across the state. Similarly, the MOFS team regularly hit the road, travelling across the state to conduct free farm safety visits and community meetings, while also putting out a monthly newsletter and a toolkit of handbooks and resources to assist and educate farmers on implementing and maintaining safety. At the East Gippsland Field Days, Stock Sense and Herd Solutions vet Alison Gunn will run a Q&A about common sheep and cattle diseases in the region. This will take place at the Gippsland Ag Shed on the Saturday, with sheep session at 10.30am the cattle session at 11.30am. VFF president Brett Hosking spoke highly of the two projects and the benefits they provide for Victorian farmers of all types. "Both the Making Our Farms Safer and Stock Sense projects are great ways of engaging everyday farmers with information and facts that will actually help them in their businesses, their families and their communities to work towards better farming outcomes," Mr Hosking said. "We're looking forward to both programs continuing to engage and support our farmers in real and practical ways." If you are interested in learning more about the VFF projects, visit the VFF Making Our Farms Safer Facebook page or website at makingourfarmssafer.org.au, or the Stock Sense Facebook page or website at vff.org.au/stocksense. Teams from Making Our Farms Safer and the Stock Sense project will be at the East Gippsland Field Days to answer all your farm-related questions.

EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS | East Gippsland Newspapers 8 Thursday, April 9, 2026 NFS eyes Gippsland growth The recently rebranded company NFS (National Feed Solutions) will be attending the East Gippsland Field Days for the first time. The company is keen to meet with visitors to the field days because it sees Bairnsdale as being positioned in the food bowl of the eastern seaboard and positioned beautifully between Melbourne and Sydney. Sales and relationship manager Rob Crawford (who is based in Gippsland) said Bairnsdale and East Gippsland was a beautiful area and a big producer and food supplier. NFS strive to be the preferred supplier of livestock feed products, nutritional, and technical solutions to the Australian livestock industry. It offers a range high of quality, tailor-made products, delivered on time, at competitive pricing, supported by leading edge technical advice, service and support. Mr Crawford said the company could tailor solutions for all types of farming including beef and dairy cattle, sheep pigs and even poultry. "We have more than 800 products so can provide the full range depending on the individual's requirements. We deliver direct to farms, providing an all-round tailored solution," he said. Focus products include Elite Concentrate feedlot pellets, Jumpstart Calf Milk replacer and Elite Sheep and Cattle licks. NFS was founded in 2009 with a commitment to supply species specific products, premixes, medications, and additives to the intensive farming and livestock industries. Its focus has always been on quality and service and ensuring there is healthy competition for all customers. Mr Crawford said farming had changed greatly in the past 20 years and it was critical that nutrition reflected that. NFS is part of the BEC Group, a globally Where the rainforest meets the sea On the shores of the Gippsland Lakes grow some of the last remnants of an ecosystem more often associated with the tropics. Littoral rainforest occurs only where land meets sea, reliant on salty air and coastal breezes. Once spread in scattered pockets along headlands, dunes and clifftops, much of it has been cleared for development. Today, the ecosystem is critically endangered. One of these rare pockets survives on the shores of Lake Bunga on Gunaikurnai Country, on the property of Brian and Leanne Bolding. The Boldings have had a long connection to the land, caring for the lakeshore as volunteers years before purchasing the property more than a decade ago. "It's special because it's got that little pocket of rainforest," Brian said. "It really connects us to the natural world. It's a birdwatcher's paradise." The property provides habitat for Powerful Owls, Longnosed Potoroos and nesting White-bellied Sea Eagles. In 2015, the Boldings placed a Trust for Nature conservation covenant on the land, to ensure it would be protected forever. "I'd encourage anyone with special bits of land they want to protect to do so," says Brian. Trust for Nature partners with private landholders like the Boldings to protect and restore vital habitat for wildlife in Victoria through conservation covenants and the Land for Wildlife program. For Brian and Leanne, the decision to protect the land with a conservation covenant was about responsibility to future generations. "There's not that much left of the rainforest and we wanted to protect it for the future." Trust for Nature now protects more than 119,000 hectares across Victoria with over 1800 conservation covenants, 40 reserves and thousands of Land for Wildlife members. Together, these properties form a network of sanctuaries that safeguard habitat for some of our most threatened species. To learn more about protecting habitat on your property, visit the Trust for Nature stall at the East Gippsland Field Days or visit Trust for Nature's website (www.trustfornature.org.au). Conservation covenants help protect habitat for species like the Powerful Owl. The service model includes an on-farm sales and relationship management team supported by qualified nutritionists whose services, including on farm visits. EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS | East Gippsland Newspapers 10 Thursday, April 9, 2026 Supporting farmers The East Gippsland Field Days has become a well-established part of the local events calendar and for good reason. While it has something for everyone, of course there is a strong rural focus and this year it comes at a challenging time. In East Gippsland we have enjoyed a terrific season with steady rainfall over recent months, there are challenges on a few fronts, including fuel prices and fertiliser availability pressures. I had many chats with our new Federal Shadow Minister for Agriculture Darren Chester and while we have had some fuel excise respite, there remains more to do on both issues. The cost of fuel also has a potential impact on tourism with less being prepared to travel, so events like this are important to attract visitors into our region to support our local economy. Hence, more than ever we need to buy local products and produce wherever possible to support our business sector in this challenging period. I will again be at the Field Days this year so come and visit our stand. A big thanks to the tireless volunteers who do so much behind the scenes to make this all happen. By Tim Bull, Member for Gippsland East. Local MP, Tim Bull is inviting attendees to visit his stand at the upcoming East Gippsland Field Days.

EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS East Gippsland Newspapers | 17 Thursday, April 9, 2026 Expert advice and family fun East Gippsland Landcare Network will bring its Pest Fest to the East Gippsland Field Days this year, which will provide advice about pest plants and animals. Pest animals in Australia include rabbits and foxes. Gippsland is preparing for a double celebration this month as the community marks 40 years of the national Landcare movement and 30 years of the East Gippsland Landcare Network (EGLN). Four decades ago in 1986, farmers collaborated to tackle shared environmental challenges. Under the leadership of the late Joan Kirner, then Minister for Conservation, Forests and Lands, and former Victorian Farmers Federation president Heather Mitchell, Landcare was born. The first Landcare group was formed in Winjallock near St Arnaud, where this passion laid the foundation for a movement that has since spread across Victoria, Australia and even the world. East Gippsland Landcare Network has been an active and dedicated part of this journey for 30 years. Landcare has evolved into a dynamic and diverse national network committed to the sustainable stewardship of Australia's natural resources. From regional and remote landscapes, to coastlines, towns and cities, tens of thousands of dedicated landcarers continue to make a real and lasting impact across the landscape. East Gippsland Landcare Network is excited to bring its Pest Fest to the East Gippsland Field Days in 2026. Two days of expert advice, interactive displays and kids' activities about to hear from the Victorian Rabbit Action Network, Trust For Nature, DEECA Good Neighbour program, Agriculture Victorias Vertebrate Species Management Program, Bird Life East Gippsland, Victorian Gorse Taskforce, the local African Lovegrass control group and many more. The local EGLN African Lovegrass control group will have a display outlining the Tom's Creek Landcare demonstration plots at the Gippsland Research Farm and the various demonstration plots around the district. Visit them at the Landcare Hangar to discuss the results and any issues you may have controlling this invasive weed with group members. While you are there, register for a guided walk through the GAgG ALG research plots, leaving the Field Days entry gates at 1pm on Friday or 10am on Saturday. Get involved with the panel discussion on ALG in the Landcare marquee with local farmers and researchers at 10am on Friday . Bring the kids along to make nature wands or decorate their own Landcare tote bag in the children's activities zone. Stall holders will be available across the two days to answer your questions and share their enthusiasm for our natural environment our most pervasive pest plants and animals – and some that you may not have even heard of. Your local Landcare networks – Far East Victoria Landcare and East Gippsland Landcare Network, along with Landcare facilitators from across the region will be in attendance to share their passion and inspire you with local Landcare stories and information. EAST GIPPSLAND FIELD DAYS East Gippsland Newspapers | 19 Thursday, April 9, 2026 Maffra’s finest fleece on display Visitors to the East Gippsland Field Days are in for a soft and stylish treat this year, as one of Maffra's premier alpaca producers, Merungle Alpacas brings a world-class range of fleece and garments to Site 24i. Managing a herd of 140 alpacas just outside of Maffra is a full-time commitment focused on quality. The yearly clip is sent to Dynon Wools in Laverton North for expert classing, with the premium Australian alpaca wool eventually finding its way to high-end markets in Italy and China. While the raw wool is a local success story, sourcing Australian-made finished garments remains a challenge. Aside from the iconic Humphrey Law alpaca socks, the search for high-quality manufacturing led the producer back to "the home of alpacas"— South America. This year, Merungle Alpacas' stall at Site 24i will showcase the results of that search: a curated collection of ethically produced garments from Peru and Bolivia, alongside premium brushed throw rugs crafted by experts in New Zealand. Attendees can browse the extensive range of jumpers, rugs, and socks, or simply learn more about the local alpaca industry. The display will be located at Site 24i throughout the event on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11. Merungle Alpacas are back for the 2026 East Gippsland Field Days at site 24i. Accessories include access ramps, security tool bars, galvanised anti-vandal locks, shelving systems, forklift pockets and connection kits. "People have used them for vermin proof grain storage or other agricultural needs, an outside bar, art studio or even a home business such as hairdressing." In recent weeks the company has had sites at Farm World near Warragul and the International Flower and Garden Show.
