Outstanding doctors

Recently retired doctor, John Urie, has been recognised in the 2022 Victorian Rural Health Awards for his ‘Outstanding Contribution by a Rural Generalist’.
Dr Urie is currently three weeks into retirement.
He was holidaying with his wife, East Gippsland Shire councillor, Mendi Urie, in Alice Springs when the Advertiser spoke to him by phone last week.
“It’s very nice, but why me?,” Dr Urie queried, before adding: “There are a lot of my contemporaries who are just as deserving”.
Dr Urie is relishing the warmer climate for six weeks before he returns to Mt Hotham as the  resident doctor for the snow season. A job he has enjoyed doing for the past 20 odd years.
