Rising vegetable prices take a toll

The cost of vegetables rising has taken local shoppers by surprise.
While there’s no denying the cost of living has inflated the prices of many supermarket items, vegetable prices appear to be a point of angst for many shoppers.
Bairnsdale resident, Judy Hollingsworth, told the Advertiser last week that she was buying tomatoes in a packet for $4.95, but they have since risen to $10.
“That’s a big jump, especially for pensioners,” Mrs Hollingsworth said.
She’s now taken to buying frozen vegetables to get around the price hikes.
