Grants to boost groups

Bruthen Lions Club’s project to create and install picnic tables at the Bruthen Skate Park ($3437.50) is among 19 local community groups and events to share in $59,622.36 in funding to deliver community projects and events, announced by East Gippsland Shire Council this month.

Successful round one 2019/20 community project grants program recipients are:

  • Paynesville Business and Tourism Association: Paynesville Music Festival $5000;
  • U3A Bairnsdale: Technology upgrade of laptops, whiteboards and smart television $5000;
  • Headspace Bairnsdale: ColourFest youth event 2020 $5000;
  • Gippsland Lakes Community Health: Walk to Change the Story $3,359.75;
  • Bairnsdale and District Kennel Club: Installation of storage and security $5000;
  • F.INC: Frouteville 2020 community arts festival $2800;
  • Orbost Bowls Club: Installation of safety handrails $1072;
  • Orbost Uniting Church: Orbost Flower Show Centenary Celebration $5000;
  • Rotary Club of Orbost: Christmas Eve Festival $1000;
  • Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry: Township welcome and events boards $1450;
  • Bruthen Lions Club: Bruthen Skate Park picnic tables $3437.50;
  • Cann River Community Centre: Light Up Christmas $1500;
  • Ensay Recreation Reserve: Kitchen upgrade $5000;
  • Ensay Angling Club: Competitions $1500;
  • Lakes Entrance Amateur Basketball Association: Court upgrade $5000;
  • Mallacoota Boardriders: Far Easter Surf Festival $3000;
  • Omeo and District Agriculture and Pastoral Society: Safety equipment $2838;
  • Omeo District Cricket Club: Pitch and equipment $2000;
  • CWA High Country Branch: Poet’s Walk seating $665.

Mayor, Cr Natalie O’Connell, congratulated all funding recipients.

“The objective of the grants program is to provide local community-based organisations the opportunity to access funding for a variety of needs and initiatives in a manner that is open, transparent and accountable,” Cr O’Connell said.

“I look forward to seeing these grants being put to good use and our communities receiving great benefit from the events, equipment upgrades and infrastructure being completed by all these important volunteer organisations.”
