East Gippsland has recorded its second positive coronavirus test –the first since March 26.
The positive test was announced among last Friday’s updates and amid what is becoming a dangerous spike in cases across Victoria – yesterday the state recorded 191 new cases following two deaths on Monday.
The positive case was not tested at the Bairnsdale Respiratory Clinic, indicating the East Gippsland resident may have been tested outside the region.
Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will go into a six-week stage three lockdown as of tonight following the surge in cases.
All other regional areas will maintain their current restrictions.
On Monday the New South Wales government announced it would shut its borders to Victoria as of 11.59pm last night as the state attempts to restrict and contain the spread.
All other Australian states and territories have begun easing restrictions due to low active case numbers.
